Mommy Makeover

What Is a Mommy Makeover

Pregnancy is such a beautiful time for a woman. Bringing life into the world is one of the most amazing experiences. At the same time, the physical toll it takes on her body is especially taxing. While some are able to bounce back to their pre-pregnancy look, others are left with changes that cannot be reversed through diet and exercise alone. Otherwise confident about themselves and the way they look before having kids, some women feel embarrassed and self-conscious afterwards. Stretch marks, fat deposits, and a weakening of the abdominal wall, and stretched out abdominal muscles, deflated breasts, excess skin are some of the things caused by pregnancy that can adversely affect the self-image of some women.

When To Consider A Mommy Makeover

A Mommy Makeover is a combination of different procedures designed to restore the look of a woman’s body to its pre-pregnancy state. The procedures commonly combined include a tummy tuck, breast augmentation with lift (if necessary) and body sculpting. The first and simplest way to address loose skin after pregnancy is through a tummy tuck. In addition to removing the skin and stretch marks during the abdominoplasty, the surgeon may tighten, if necessary, the abdominal muscles (diastasis recti repair) if they have been weakened by your pregnancy. Using FDA-approved implants, a breast augmentation restores fullness and perkiness to your breasts.

Recovery & Downtime

Mommy makeovers is an outpatient procedure, performed using general anesthesia. You can expect and are encouraged to walk around on your own a few hours after surgery and every couple of hours for the first few days to ensure proper circulation, and most patients feel up to leaving the house within five to seven days. You may feel sore the first week or so, and you will need to limit strenuous exercise for about 2-4 weeks. You can expect up to 14 days of downtime and lifting restrictions for 6 weeks. You will be asked to wear a supportive compression garment for a certain period of time after your procedures—it is crucial to follow your instructions to ensure you heal optimally and for the best possible results.

If you choose to do a breast augmentation with or without a lift, breast implants are placed partially beneath the pectoral muscle—the preferred method in most cases—your breasts may seem to sit high on the chest at first and even up to 3 or 4 months based on your anatomy. This is normal, and your implants will settle into their optimal position over the next several months, with final results typically after 6+ months.
